Traveling by Air
Hanoi owns one international airport named Noi Bai International Airport – 35km from the city’s downtown. Besides, Gia Lam Airport (about 8km from Hanoi) used to be the main airport of Hanoi during the 1970s of 20th century. At present, Gia Lam Airport is offered the domestic flights available for tourists who intend to travel to famous tourist attractions in Vietnam.
Noi Bai International Airport is the biggest airport in the Northern of Vietnam. From here, it takes between 30 to 45 minutes for traveling by taxi. There are Vietnamese and international airlines which operate from Noi Bai Airport including Vietnam Airlines, Pacific Airlines, Air Asia, Cathay Pacific, Hong Kong Airlines, Thai Airways, Lao Airlines, Nok Air and Tiger Airways. A lot of services such as shopping, currency exchange service, ATMs and transportation options are always available to meet tourists’ demands. For booking air tickets, you can go directly to airline office for arrangement or you can order travel agency to arrange for you.
Various means of transportation service like public taxis, minibus and public buses are ready to serve tourists from Noi Bai International Airport to Hanoi center and vice versa.
There are also taxis available from the downtown to Noi Bai International Airport charging the same fixed rate.
Minibuses leave the airport when carrying full of passengers inside.
From the center of Hanoi, Minibus to the Airport departs from opposite the Vietnam Airlines Office in Quang Trung Street.
Travelling by Train
Hanoi Railway Station is Vietnam’s main railway station. It is located at 120 Le Duan Street, Hanoi, Vietnam (at the end of Tran Hung Dao Street. Tel: 84. 43. 9423697 Fax: 84. 43. 7470366). This railway leads to almost every province of Vietnam.
Train tickets are frequently bought from 7.30 am to 12.30 pm and 1.30 pm to 7.30 pm everyday. To get tickets, tourists can go directly to the ticket office or ask the travel agency for arrangement or phone to the Ticket office at 84. 43. 9423949.
There are daily trains from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City. Tourists are suggested to book in advance for tickets.
Travelling by coach (Bus and Minibus)
Bus service is always available to transfer from Hanoi to other cities and provinces. There are five bus stations in the area of Hanoi.
1. Gia Lam Bus Station

All minibus and coaches depart from Gia Lam Bus Station to Hai Phong, Halong Bay, Lang Son and to the Northern, Eastern, North-western and the Nort-eastern provinces of Vietnam.
2. Kim Ma Bus Station
Address: 116 Nguyen Thai Hoc Street, Hanoi.
Kim Ma Bus Station is now an inner transition station of Hanoi.
3. My Dinh Bus Station
Address: 50 Pham Hung Street, Cau Giay District, Hanoi

4. Southern Bus Station (Giap Bat Bus Station)

Coaches are available to depart daily for all Southern provinces, cites and towns, for examples: Ninh Binh, Thanh Hoa, Nam Dinh, Vinh, Hue, Danang, Nha Trang, Da Lat, Qui Nhon, Ho Chi Minh City.
5. Luong Yen Bus Station
Address: No.3 Nguyen Khoai Road, Hai Ba Trung District, Hanoi

Daily coaches depart from here to Cao Bang, Lang Son, Tuyen Quang, Ha Giang, Son La, Phu Tho, Thanh Hoa and Nghe An province.
6. Yen Nghia Bus Station

Coaches depart daily for the Northwest Province.
7. Nuoc Ngam Bus Station

1. City buses
Buses and minibus serve on most of the main streets of Hanoi from 5.00 am to 9.00 pm. After 5 or 10 minutes, there is one bus depart. The fare for each person is 3,000 VND.
2. Car, Motorbike and Bicycle
For cars, it is possible to hire with a driver from most travel agencies, hotels and airline offices.
Bicycles and motorbikes are also hired from many travelers’ cafes and hotels. To make a deposit, tourists have to leave passports with the owner. It is highly recommended to leave bike or motorbike in a supervised parking area for safety.

4. Cyclo
Traveling around Hanoi by cyclo is one of an interesting ways to enjoy Hanoi. There are many tours available for foreign tourists to travel on cyclo around Hanoi. Tourists can get cyclos at streets in center of Hanoi.
