City Travel Guide
Because of the differences in geography and topography, the climate of each region is significantly distinguished. The North is blessed with the climate of four seasons in a year: Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter. Spring is the first season of a year which last from February to April with warm weather. It is featured by fine drizzle that helps plants grow fast and flowers bloom brightly in Spring. It is also a season of festivals – in which The Vietnamese Lunar New Year (Tet Nguyen Dan) is celebrated. Summer begins from May and ends in August with hot and showery weather. During a day, the sun shines brightly and the weather is hot mostly until midnight. Besides, sometimes it is the sudden thundershower that makes summer less hot and become cooler. When the shower of summer has passed, the Autumn comes with cool air, and dry and lightly windy weather. Autumn is considered as the most beautiful season of the year with yellow leaves falling on the streets and yellow bright shines in day time – which is the forever inspiration for the poets. However, there are sometimes typhoons that threaten people’s life and agriculture in the country. Lastly, Winter is the coldest season which ends the year. It is generally cold and dry in winter. Although the weather is “frozen to the bone” in Winter, you still hardly find snow in Vietnam. The Winter in the Northern of Vietnam is said to be different from in other country, which make foreign travelers – who are familiar with the winter in their countries – still have to spend times to adapt to this special coldness.
The weather of the Middle is referred to be harsher than that of the North because the influence of the hot and dry westerly wind. In the Middle, Summer seems to be hotter and Winter is sharply colder in comparison with the weather in the North. The Middle is suffered much from natural calamities such as storms, flooding and even droughty – which cause bad influence on human and properties. Therefore, if you plan to visit this region, you should remember to listen to the weather forecast carefully, so as to ensure safety during your journey.
On the other hand, the Southern weather of Vietnam is predominantly sub-equatorial with two main seasons of wet rainy season and dry season. A wet rainy season ranges from April to September. It is often sunny in mornings and rainy in late afternoons. There are suddenly showers in which it rains heavily but stops quickly in rainy season. A dry season spans the months of October to May. The weather becomes hotter. The sun shines all days but it becomes cooler at night. Generally, the temperature of the South is often high and the weather is definitely rather stable throughout the year. Due to the variation of climate in each region, you should pay attention to choose clothes – which cloth is suitable or which is not – when traveling from the North to the South and vice versa.

The special characteristic of climate in the South is that in Da Lat – called a city of Flowers in Vietnam. There is a sharp difference between the climate in Da Lat and in wholly the South of Vietnam. Lying on the high of 2,100 meter above the sea level, although Da Lat is often affected by storms, its climate is still comfortable. Da Lat has the climate of four seasons in one day: it is Spring in the early morning, Summer in noon, Autumn in the afternoon and Winter at night.
